Born in Blackpool, Ciaran began his career with Blackburn Rovers in 2002. He was loaned out to Blackpool in 2004 where he made nine League appearances without scoring. When he was released by Rovers in the summer of 2005 he signed for the Seasiders permanently and over the next two years made 32 appearances for them, scoring twice.
During that spell he was also loaned out to Southport who were then in the Conference where he made 11 appearances, scoring once and then to Macclesfield Town of league two. After his release in the summer of 2007, he signed Fleetwood Town but six months later he moved to the Irish league side Glenavon.
Ciaran was released in the summer of 2008 and played local football in Blackpool the following year before spending last season in the Vodkat League Second Division with AFC Blackpool. He joined Barrow in July 2010 after sucessfully featuring in the pre-season programme. He made his debut at bath City in early September.
